3 A s the days grow colder, the 2022-23 academic year is well underway. e new semester has brought a renewed energy to the house, which has been exciting to see! 183RD GENERAL CONVENTION is summer, four active Brothers (including me) flew to Atlanta for the 183rd General Convention. While there, Alumni Treasurer Frank Leibly '93 received the well-deserved House Corporation Excellence Award for his work keeping the house afloat during the pandemic. In addition, Beta Upsilon received its second consecutive and second-ever Knox Award! FALL RECRUITMENT e fall recruitment cycle gave rise to many new ideas and innovations. Every night, the façades of both houses were lit up with new projectors that we bought specifically for recruitment. We also tested new events, like a Water War and an Eating Tour of the North End. In the end, we added eight new men to our Chapter, and I am excited to welcome them into our Brotherhood. ANNEX BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT is summer, with help from our House Corporation, I put together a plan to revamp and revive our Chapter's Annex. e project is meant to give Brothers a greater sense of ownership over the space and make it a nicer place to live in general. So far, we have created a new study room in the first-floor front room and painted a large Beta Upsilon mural in the dining room. Upcoming projects include new furniture for the dining room and foyer, a Brotherhood photo collage, and hanging up older composites along the stairs. SOCIAL EVENTS AND BROTHERHOOD On October 9, we had our first Brotherhood camping retreat since 2019, an event I eagerly awaited. I am glad to say that the house feels more alive now than I have ever seen it. If you walk down to the first floor of 119, you will find Brothers playing Super Smash Bros., watching Lord of the Rings for a film studies class, or getting up to mischief with Spoons. I am also glad to see the energy and enthusiasm of our new pledges, who I think will make great additions to the community. All in all, I would say that spirits are high in the Chapter!
