OUR CHALLENGES AND NEEDS EPSILON IOTA CHAPTER | PAGE 4 "For many years, the house corporation has performed needed maintenance and repairs as the budget has allowed, but we can no longer band-aid a facility designed in the 1970s. To be competitive with other sororities and campus housing, we must make capital upgrades, which require capital funding. To thrive at MU, we are calling all alumnae to step up so we can undergo a major renovation." –Bridgid Smith Kinney '93, House Corporation President ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL Our facility does not meet current American with Disability Act (ADA) requirements. Kappa Delta strives to be an inclusive and accessible organization. We must accommodate all students' needs and complete the appropriate steps to bring the facility into the 21st century. Specifically, this will include elevator access to all levels of the house and an ADA-sized bedroom and restroom. GREEK MEMBERSHIP REMAINS STRONG While our large chapter size is welcomed and appreciated, it does present some difficulties with the current facility. The entire chapter is no longer able to fit in the chapter room, and the chapter can no longer have all-chapter dinners due to lack of space. With most members not living in the chapter house, the need for more common space is critical. Our facility does not have the appropriate amount of study and living space to make all sisters feel welcome and at home. HOUSING COMPETITION AT ALL-TIME HIGH Our beloved home at 606 E. Rollins has witnessed the march of time. While Kappa Delta continues to attract some of the top women, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other sororities that offer better facilities. All other sororities at MU have responded to chapter growth and increased competition within the Greek community by investing in substantial upgrades or rebuilding their facilities. Kappa Delta is the last sorority house to make significant upgrades to the facility. S ince our founding, 606 E. Rollins has been a part of Epsilon Iota's history. However, it has become clear that we must make a major investment in our chapter house if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living environment, and meet the needs of our sisters today.
