A ttending a large university can be intimidating, so for students entering their first year, it's important to find ways to make that transition more manageable. For Robin Hewitt Gosling '90, Pi Beta Phi helped navigate her new experience at the University of Georgia (UGA) and even gave her lifelong friendships and memories along the way. Robin cherishes the friendships she made within the Pi Phi sisterhood to this day. From celebrating milestone events to mourning her losses alongside her, Robin's sisters have supported her through everything. She considers many of these relationships to be foundational to who she's become. "My best friend and I met on Bid Night in 1989; we have been in each other's lives since then, and I cannot imagine life without her," she shares. "I also have such good friends that I may not see as often as I'd like, but the memories of my time in the Pi Phi house and at UGA were some of the best in my life." The connections Robin found through Pi Phi were a fundamental reason why she chose to give back to Georgia Alpha through A New Vision Built on Great Tradition–The Campaign for Georgia Alpha. "I contributed to the capital campaign to honor the friendships of my college days and hopefully to provide an opportunity for other collegians to enjoy life as a Pi Phi and forge connections with their sisters in the chapter facility," she says. Robin graduated from UGA with a bachelor's degree in international business with a concentration in finance and Spanish. She then moved on to attend West Virginia University College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctorate, Order of the Coif. Robin began her career as a litigation associate in Charleston, West Virginia, and ended her career as an associate general counsel for Total System Services Inc. in Columbus, Georgia. While Robin enjoyed a fulfilling law career, she is most proud of her family. After marrying later in life, Robin struggled with infertility. However, through in vitro fertilization, she was able to conceive her twins. "After giving birth to them nine years ago, my focus shifted from career to motherhood, and I have never looked back—although I dabble every now and again with part-time legal work," Robin shares. Pi Phi's core value of Philanthropic Service to Others still resonates with Robin today, and she enjoys volunteering with her children's school and her church in Columbus. "I think it is of the utmost importance to lead by example, and I want to show my kids what it is to lead with a servant's heart," she shares. You can connect with Robin at robingosling@yahoo.com.
