Empowering Our Communities PI PHI INSTILLS THE VALUE OF SERVICE Angel UPDATE G E O R G I A A L P H A C H A P T E R UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA | FALL 2022 P i Beta Phi sisters are united by a set of core values, including our mission "to promote friendship, develop women of intellect and integrity, cultivate leadership potential and enrich lives through community service." Service is inherently linked to the core tenets of our sisterhood, and we all strive to serve our communities throughout our lives. At Georgia Alpha, we proudly uphold Philanthropic Service to Others as one of our six core values— throughout our time as both collegians and alumnae. Our commitment to service is widespread, and we aim to give back to our community in ways that fit its specific needs. The role of serving others is something our entire sisterhood takes on—it is a role we immerse ourselves in daily to ensure we are being kind and selfless. Our chapter engages in the core value of Philanthropic Service to Others in many ways. We have philanthropy events every fall and spring to raise awareness and money for Read > Lead > Achieve ® . This past spring, we held a 1950s diner- themed meal on the lawn called Pi Burger Phri. Our members and others in the University of Georgia community enjoyed burgers and fries while watching the classic movie Grease. Pi Phi has a special commitment to literacy—a cause our Fraternity has been dedicated to for more than 110 years. Read > Lead > Achieve, Pi Phi's philanthropic effort, inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society. Every September, Pi Phi celebrates Read > Lead > Achieve Month. Chapters, alumnae clubs and Pi Phi sisters spend the month sharing their passion for literacy through projects and initiatives in their communities. This includes hosting local events, improving access to literacy education and advocating for the importance of fostering a lifelong love of reading. My sisters and I hold Pi Phi's commitment to literacy very close to our hearts. We see the need for change in the world around us and choose to do our part to make a difference. Every year, our members help at Alps Elementary School, only a mile away from our home on Milledge. Members spark a passion for learning in the students at Alps by assisting with the after-school program and library. We are very proud of the work we do to connect with and better our local community in Athens. Georgia Alpha believes service and literacy are the keys to a brighter, more compassionate world. When we lift those around us, they become empowered to uplift others as well. As a new term begins here at the University of Georgia, we can't wait to show you how Georgia Alpha is making Pi Beta Phi's mission a reality.
