3 Alpha Tau Omega T he spring semester was a major success for Delta Kappa. Thanks to our great executive team, the chapter accomplished things that seemed impossible during the previous COVID semesters. RECRUITING QUALITY MEN Recruitment went well—especially for a spring semester. One of the points I brought up in the last newsletter is that we praise quality over quantity. While some fraternities might call that "an excuse for bad recruitment," that's simply not the case for our chapter. Financially, we are in a place where we don't need to take members that don't fit the high qualifications to be a brother of Alpha Tau Omega. Instead, we recruit the young men we see becoming leaders both on campus and the fraternity, and those we see continuing the values and reputation of Delta Kappa—long after any this executive team or active chapter is gone. We initiated seven spring pledges at the end of August, all of whom exhibit the values of our fraternity. This fall, we plan to take 65 potential new members, which is more than a realistic number based on recent performance. Our recruitment chairmen, Luke Grimaldi '20 and Dawson Adams '20, have achieved great things so far, having higher event turnouts than I've seen in my three-plus years as an ATΩ. This chapter grows stronger every day, and I cannot wait to see our new members grow alongside us as brothers. KEEPING EVERYONE CONNECTED One of the many thorns that hurt the chapter was a lack of structured upperclassman involvement. Typically, social events are tailored to freshman and sophomores, with juniors and seniors only sticking around for large events, such as formal and semi-formal. This is something that my executive team and I strove to change from the beginning. To start, we planned a casino night for the spring. A company set up tables downstairs, and members were given $1,000 (in fake money) and to play games like Blackjack, Texas Hold'em, Craps, and Roulette. Whichever three members had the most money at the end of the night could pick from three prizes. The night was a big hit with over 50 juniors and seniors in attendance. SERVING OUR COMMUNITY Intramurals and philanthropy have, and will remain, strong priorities for Delta Kappa. Our brothers won the baseball championship this year, and we have multiple philanthropic events scheduled for this fall. We amended our bylaws to make the philanthropy chairman an executive position, maintaining the priority of charity in our fraternity. We plan to hold events such as a "Be the Match" swabbing to help save lives; another Gatorcrawl philanthropy to generate a projected $20,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project; and a combined effort with Alpha Phi to hold a blood drive for the OU community. While the spring is typically a slower semester for Greek organizations, I'm extremely proud of everything we accomplished and excited to see how this next semester plays out. As my term comes to an end in a semester, I want to thank all of you for your support over the years. I am honored to join you all as an alumnus of this great fraternity next summer.
