Page 12 September 5 - 11, 2022 "This Is Spinal Tap" (Turner Classic Movies, Sunday, Sept. 4): The comedy that really set the pace for so-called "mockumentaries," director Rob Reiner's much-beloved, often-quoted 1984 portrait of a fictional rock band casts Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer as the members of the group. They're followed by a filmmaker (played by Reiner himself ) during a concert tour that proves eventful, to put it mildly. Bruno Kirby, Ed Begley Jr., Fran Drescher, Dana Carvey, Billy Crystal and Patrick Macnee ("The Avengers") also turn up. BY JAY BOBBIN more retro rewinds Thanks to the success of Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building," Steve Martin is one of the kings of streaming now ... but another service also is making use of his talents, since Disney+ is running his 1991 version of "Father of the Bride." It's the delightful remake of the Spencer Tracy-starring 1950 comedy (also done again recently with Andy Garcia) that's centered on a dad who only gets more harried as the nuptials of his daughter (played in this case by a then-debuting Kimberly Williams) approach. As his wife (Diane Keaton) tries to help keep his feet on the ground, a quirky wedding planner (Martin Short, now reunited with Martin in "Only Murders") doesn't do much to help him stay calm.
