Arrow UPDATE C O L O R A D O A L P H A C H A P T E R UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO | FALL 2022 Empowering Our Communities PI PHI INSTILLS THE VALUE OF SERVICE P i Beta Phi sisters are united by a set of core values, including our mission "to promote friendship, develop women of intellect and integrity, cultivate leadership potential and enrich lives through community service." Service is inherently linked to the core tenets of our sisterhood, and we all strive to serve our communities throughout our lives. At Colorado Alpha, we proudly uphold Philanthropic Service to Others as one of our six core values—throughout our time as both collegians and alumnae. Our commitment to service is widespread, and we aim to give back to our community in ways that fit its specific needs. Our chapter engages with our core value of Philanthropic Service to Others hands-on. At every chapter meeting, we encourage volunteering at the Family Learning Center (FLC), where our sisters read to children and inspire them to practice on their own. Seeing the kids' faces light up when they see us all in the room brings us so much joy. The role of serving others holds such a special place in our hearts. It allows us to give back to our community and demonstrate that we empathize for those in need. Pi Phi also has a special commitment to literacy—a cause our Fraternity has been dedicated to for more than 110 years. Read > Lead > Achieve ® , Pi Phi's philanthropic effort, inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society. Every September, Pi Phi celebrates Read > Lead > Achieve Month. Chapters, alumnae clubs and Pi Phi sisters spend the month sharing their passion for literacy through projects and initiatives in their communities. This includes hosting local events, improving access to literacy education and advocating for the importance of fostering a lifelong love of reading. Pi Phi's commitment to literacy is not just about bringing awareness. It is also about ensuring children have the tools to learn how to read through hands-on learning. We show our commitment to literacy by our weekly volunteering efforts at the FLC, as well as organizing book drives that directly help the FLC. These book drives ensure the children have access to age- appropriate reading material to practice on their own. Colorado Alpha believes service and literacy are the keys to a brighter, more compassionate world. When we lift those around us, they become empowered to uplift others as well. As a new term begins here at the University of Colorado, we can't wait to show you how Colorado Alpha is making Pi Beta Phi's mission a reality.
