Quartzsite Events Online: QuartzsiteCalendar.com The Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge weekly tour is avail- able Thursdays 8am-10am, Septem- ber through May. The tour includes the Visitor Center exhibits, Peninsula and Delta Trails, and will focus on the Refuge's habitat types and the plants and animals that use them. Sturdy shoes or boots are recommended; and be sure to bring water, binocu- lars, sun screen and a hat to help make this an enjoyable experience! Located in a transition zone be- tween the Mojave and Sonoran deserts, the Bill Williams River Na- tional Wildlife Refuge has a unique ecosystem that provides excellent habitat for many resident and mi- gratory wildlife, including birds, reptiles, butterfl ies, mammals and amphibians, as well as a diverse ar- ray of plants. It also contains the largest remaining stand of native cottonwood and willow forests in the lower Colorado River. Tour Information • Months: Sep-May • Group Size: No limit • Departure Times: 8am • Length of tour: 2 hr The Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge protects the lower course of the Bill Williams River, to its mouth at Lake Havasu reservoir, in western Arizona. It is located within eastern La Paz and Mohave Counties, in the Lower Colorado River Valley region. Bill Williams Wildlife Refuge is home to over 6,000 acres of habitat, 355 species of birds, 34 documented reptiles, 40 species of butterfl ies, 57 species of mammals, 7 amphibians, and a plethora of indigenous wildlife. Travel north of Parker 18 miles to marker 161 and turn toward the lake. For questions or more infor- mation, contact Wildlife Refuge at 928-667-4144. Bill Williams Wildlife Refuge tours begin Nancy's Kitchen BBQ BEER CAN CHICKEN 1 tsp. garlic powder 1 tsp. onion powder 1/2 tsp. paprika 1/2 tsp. black pepper 1/4 tsp. dried thyme leaves 1 whole chicken (4 lb.) 1 (12-oz.) can beer 1/2 cup Honey Barbecue Sauce HEAT grill to medium-high heat. Mix the fi rst 5 ingredients; rub onto chicken. OPEN beer can; discard half the beer. Place can on work surface; lower chicken over can, inserting can into tail end of chicken. Stand chicken on grill grate, using the legs to help chicken stand upright. (Can should remain in chicken on grill.) Turn off burners directly below chicken; cover grill. GRILL chicken for 1 hour; brush with sauce. Grill, uncovered, for 15 minutes or until chicken is done (165ºF), brushing frequently with remaining sauce. Remove from grill; cover loosely with foil. Let stand for 10 minutes before removing chicken from can and carving chicken. Discard any beer remaining in can.
