August 17, 2022 www.DesertMessenger.com 11 The Quartzsite Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is proud to announce the 2022 Chamber Volunteer of the Year, Becky John- stone. Becky came to Quartzsite for a winter from Oregon and Idaho and liked it so much, she stayed. She greets visitors and residents of Quartzsite 3-4 days a week and co- ordinates the schedule for our other seasonal volunteers. Knowing that many of our visitors pass through Quartzsite on their way to other locations Becky has ac- tively sought out information from other towns and states for the Visi- tor Center including visitor guides and maps. Are you looking for a cooler place to camp next summer? The chamber has a map for that! Becky has worked hard to update and improve Quartzsite RV Parks information for an upcoming bro- chure. The RV Parks brochure will list amenities and websites along with the name, address and phone numbers of Quartzsite RV parks. Becky has also raised over $1,000 in donations with camel earrings and necklaces she crafted. When Chamber volunteers are asked questions, they will find the answers. Many times, that means creating a new brochure or flyer. Are you looking for area hiking trails, historic buildings, locations from which you will find views to paint or photograph, rules for rid- ing your golf cart of UTV, transpor- tation to the Phoenix airport, who to contact for a vendor location or license and Arizona Tax ID, area motels and hotels, local museums? Are you looking for OHV trail maps, Camel Express or QIA schedules or WACOG information? Becky has worked to make sure the Visitor Center has information for Quartzsite residents as well as our visitors. She has encouraged local businesses to display their business cards and brochures. When people were looking for Buck Connors Days schedules, she tracked down details for the events, venues and times. Quartzsite's long summer starts in April and runs through Septem- ber. In order to promote local busi- nesses, she started Quartzsite Shop Small Bingo. She posts almost every day on the Quartzsite Shop Small Facebook group to let people know when shops are open, where they are located and to give them an idea of products they carry. Becky also updates the Chamber's Facebook Chamber Volunteer of the year page and www.Quartzsite- Tourism.com website. One of her current works in progress is a "Quartzsite is for…" brochure to expand awareness of activities in the area. Quartzsite isn't just for rockhounds and camp- ers. She has information for shoppers, museum lovers, hikers, artists, photogra- phers, bird and wildlife lov- ers, spiritual seekers, food trucks, music lovers and more. Becky loves to say, "There is no good reason for being bored in Quartzsite." The Chamber is always looking for volunteers for events (Christmas Parade, Hi Jolly Daze Pa- rade, Buck Connors Days, Meet the Candidates, etc.) and to help in the Visitor Center at 1240 W Main Street across from McDonald's. Join us in making Quartzsite known as one of the friendliest towns in the southwest! Does your business have ideas to help the Chamber of Com- merce serve you better? Please reach out to Becky. She will work with the Chamber Board to help serve you better. The Chamber's summer hours are 10am-2pm Thursday, Friday, Satur- day. Call us with your questions at 928-927-5200.
