100 Centennial Campaign Pride in Our Past F or nearly 100 years, the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi has played an integral role in the Greek experience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Founded in 1913, our Chapter has set itself apart from other fraternities on campus by producing members who distinguish themselves as scholars, leaders, athletes and Men of Principle. We have demonstrated the Fraternity's shared belief that brotherhood brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds to assist each other in the attainment of high-minded goals, developing a lifelong commitment and creating friendships that will stand the postgraduate test of time and distance. Restoring Beta Theta Pi at MIT will ensure that young men in the 21st century will have a similar opportunity to develop the qualities essential for success in today's competitive world. Many of our Brothers have gone on to successful and distinguished careers in business, technology, medicine, research and countless other endeavors, adhering to our shared principles and values. At the time, we may not have realized that the act of joining Beta Theta Pi and actively participating in Chapter life would teach us leadership and organizational skills, teamwork, character development and help us hone social habits, which would serve us well throughout our lives. providing for the Future B eta Upsilon alumni are rightfully proud of our legacy. Through the diligent efforts of the Beta Upsilon Association board and other alumni volunteers, the foundation for the next 100 years on Bay State Road has been established. A nucleus of young men has come together, not unlike our original founders, to bring Beta Theta Pi back to MIT. As alumni, we have an opportunity to ensure that future generations have the same positive experience we did and to go beyond the traditional fraternity and provide additional benefits for the 21st century. It is imperative that we continue to support our Fraternity and its mission to build better men. "When people ask me about my MIT experience, I tell them I loved it. That's really a half-truth. I loved MIT because I loved Beta. Were it not for Beta, I don't think I would have made it past my first semester at MIT. Having the support of my classmates and the guidance of upperclassmen and alumni helped me navigate and ultimately excel at MIT. And just as importantly, it made my college experience one of the best periods of my life." –Frank Leibly '93
