Letter of Support
Beta Theta Pi Fraternity
119 Bay State Road
Boston, MA 02215
Dear Alumni:
I would like to extend my congratulations to the Beta Upsilon Chapter of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity
on the decision to renovate the chapter facilities on Bay State Road. The Massachusetts Institute of
Technology appreciates the leadership Beta undergraduates and alumni have provided the Institute
since Beta Upsilon's founding in 1913, and the Division of Student Life fully endorses this project as
a key element for the continued success of the fraternity.
The MIT Fraternity, Sorority, and Independent Living Group community (FSILG) has been, and will
continue to be, an essential element of our campus. While the community is alive and well, it is also
evolving as we engage in a communitywide FSILG strategic plan to set the stage for future success.
FSILGs exist to support and strengthen the student experience at MIT and a residential facility creates
a unique and exciting place to foster student developmental growth. Within the community, a number
of fraternities are planning and carrying out similar projects to improve their chapter houses which
mirror an ongoing MIT initiative to improve the undergraduate residential experience. The decision to
provide an excellent living and social environment with first-rate study and meeting accommodations
will enhance the overall college experience for our undergraduates.
I applaud the launching of a capital campaign for Beta Theta Pi. I do hope that the alumni of the Beta
Upsilon Chapter will respond to the capital campaign with a degree of generosity that reflects an appreciation for what Beta has done for them, as well as a desire to see the chapter be a positive factor
in the lives of young men for generations to come.
Again, congratulations and good luck.
Sincerely,
Costantino Colombo
Dean for Student Life
