Beta Upsilon's Return to MIT
W
ith the support of the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and the backing
of the General Fraternity, the Beta Upsilon
Chapter of Beta Theta Pi returned to campus in
the fall of 2012. One of the philosophies of the
Men of Principle initiative is the implementation
of a full-time onsite coordinator for a chapter's
restart. This individual moved into 119 Bay
State Road in June 2012 and worked diligently
to establish partnerships with MIT, build an
advisory team in the Boston area, and help recruit
the founding fathers of the Fraternity. Over the
course of the year, he worked with the members
of the Chapter to create a healthy, sustainable
culture while educating them on the day-to-day
processes and workings of the Fraternity. The
reinstallation of the Beta Upsilon Chapter was
held on November 4, 2012. Finally, because of
the unique landscape of MIT, the Beta Upsilon
Association has made the strategic decision to
"overfund" the restart process by retaining the
onsite coordinator for a second year.

"I learned some things about engineering and business at MIT, and I learned a lot about life at Beta.
Twenty-five years later, MIT Betas are still my closest friends. Our Chapter had some rough years lately and is
doing a 'reset,' which I believe will make the Chapter strong again. I am supporting the capital campaign
because I want others to have the same great experience that I am having!" – Ken Bryan '88
