NEWS Big Red Island Big Red Island Beta Theta Pi at Oklahoma State University | Summer 2022 Leadership Academics Freshman Follies Varsity Revue Spring Sing Sports EXCELLENCE EVERYWHERE W ow! The headline tells the story. The strength of our Beta Chapter continues its excellence in all facets of the fraternity experience at our brighter orange university. Academic performance, the stellar year with first place awards in all three Greek shows, other leadership awards, and the passion to compete in sports is detailed in the president's report from David Buskirk '23 on page 2. Plus, another strong pledge class of 44 men was initiated in the spring semester. This Big Red Island issue includes numerous pictures of chapter gatherings and activities, and our house was able to engage in a full year of competition and fun. Mom's Day turnout was large, similar to the fall Dad's Day, and moms were serenaded by the brothers with "Beta Rose." Check out the alumni sightings on pages 4 and 5 of gatherings and reunions. There are pictures of brothers across all eras, so you might see some guys you know. We always appreciate receiving pictures of brothers on the go or just hanging out. When you look at all the chapter's accomplishments, one wonders how our house meets with such success. When you step back, two things become noteworthy. First, recruitment must be phenomenal and rush/ recruitment has always been considered the lifeblood of the fraternity. Today, the process is highly organized with area leaders and assistants reporting to our vice president of recruitment. There is Greek Discovery Day in Stillwater in the spring and countless meetings and discussions as evaluations are made before bids go out. Second, as we look at our chapter leadership, one can see the depth of our leadership. We have chapter officers, multiple directors of shows, athletic coaches, and other endeavors where brothers step up to project responsibilities. The environment is one of connections of team members, a high quality of competence, a diversity of skills, experience, background, education, and an abundance of taking ownership. With the depth of leadership we have, we do win a lot and experience favorable outcomes. Also, our national fraternity has a strong commitment to training and the enhanced development of leadership skills. A number of our new brothers attend these leadership academies. They offer intense personal development and principled leadership skills. These opportunities help further brothers' careers and personal development and are part of the Beta experience. On another note, next year we will be 100 years old. See page 8 for our save the date message. At the anniversary event, it will be time for us to pass the Loving Cup around nor pass a brother by. May our grips grow strong! Read, look, and enjoy! Sincerely and yours in __kai__, Greg Colpitts '88 Larry Maguire '65
