T he fall semester of 2021 and the spring semester of 2022 were great ones for the Gamma Phi Chapter, but particularly in academics. After spending nearly two years in online classes, the University of Oklahoma started transitioning back to face-to-face learning in the fall. Everyone enjoyed getting back to our beautiful campus and being in the classroom once again. For the tenth and eleventh consecutive semesters, the chapter achieved the highest chapter GPA across all IFC at OU with a 3.36 overall GPA in the fall of 2021, and a 3.30 in the spring of 2022. The pledge class of 2021 was also dedicated and diligent in the classroom to achieve a GPA of 3.44 in the fall of 2021. These great achievements can be attributed to the hard work of Stuart Yamashita '24, the chapter's academic chairman, as well as Kyle Renton '24 and John McKee '25, the chapter's freshmen academic chairmen. The brothers of the Gamma Phi Chapter continually embrace our chapter's tradition of being leaders on campus. During the fall semester of 2021, Denzel Akuffo '23 was elected as Student Government Association's vice president; this achievement was a product of months of persistent hard work and determination put in by Denzel and his campaign team. All members are very proud of Denzel, and we are excited to see him work to better the OU community. Brothers of Gamma Phi Chapter were also involved with executive positions with multiple philanthropic organizations within the OU community, including the university's Big Event and Relay for Life. To start the spring semester of 2022, Gamma Phi Chapter was excited to initiate our 2021 pledge class. The pledge class of 2021 was initiated on February 12, 2022, and included 57 young men, making up the largest pledge class initiation in our chapter's history. We are thrilled to learn and grow with these exemplary men. Looking ahead, Justin Carmichael '24 will be leading the charge for our recruitment team as the chapter's recruitment chairman. Parker Brown '25, Jackson Remulado '25, and Nick Zuyus '25 will be helping Justin recruit the next generation of our chapter. If you have a referral for our recruitment team, please send it as soon as possible to Bill Johnston '15, Gamma Phi Rush Advisor, at billjohnston2984@gmail.com. The chapter is working on a handful of goals for the fall. Specifically, we anticipate increasing the amount of brotherhood events, developing a successful new member educational program, and continuing the academic standard our chapter is built on. We look forward to yet another successful year ahead! Yours in -kai-, Ethan Foley '24 Chapter President evfoley@ou.edu
