A message from our Chamber President In our stories dedicated to Achieving Tomorrow you will find a quote from Albert Einstein. It says, "We cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created those problems." No truer words than these were ever uttered by Einstein. Our Chamber cites change as the one constant force in the 21st century. Then, our Chamber points out how fast that change is now occurring. The President of Cleveland Clinic in a recent speech pointed out that in the 1980's the time it took to double the known knowledge of base of medicine was seven years. He then stated that today's standard to double the known knowledge base of medicine is seven days. Just last week Politico, in its newsletter, highlighted and reported that customized 3D-printed organs are a possibility of the future along with the announcement that a 3D printed ear had been created for a patient. The original story of that announcement appeared in the New York Times June 2, 2022. The story which headlined: "Doctors Transplant Ear of Human Cells, made by a 3-D Printer" goes on to state that the new ear was printed in a shape that precisely matched the woman's left ear…The new ear will continue to regenerate cartilage, giving it the look and feel of a natural ear." This opportunity and process was created by 3DBio Therapeutics in New York…The new ear will look and feel like a natural ear." Integrated design is a creative and comprehensive approach to use design to tackle real-world challenges and solve those challenges. Our Fab Lab as a digital fabrication laboratory in conjunction with the Integrated Design Lab of NWACC have overlapping missions which are and will be a force for 21st century innovation in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas. Both facilities prepare students for design related fields that require knowledge of artistic design, form and function principles, construction methods, the realities of business and solving the problems that people actually encounter. As I frequently say, "I cannot guarantee living in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas will add years to your life. However, I can guarantee that living in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas will add life to your years." That is a money back guarantee. What else do you want? Enjoy Fayetteville! Enjoy Northwest Arkansas! Bask in change! Steve Clark, IOM President & CEO Achieving Tomorrow 6
