Sisters have a great time at Big/Little reveal. 2 MU NEWS T he spring semester was packed with great memories and big achievements. Whether we were making an impact in our community or celebrating personal and professional achievements, we certainly had a fun time in the process! In honor of Black History Month, we kicked off our philanthropy event Cupcakes with Chi O. We baked over 200 cupcakes and sold them at Sproul Plaza, raising more than $700 for the Black Organizing Project. In March, we participated in Frats at Bat in which 12 Greek houses competed in a tournament to fundraise for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Outgoing Philanthropy Chairman Kelsey McIvor '20 is studying abroad this upcoming semester. She shared, "I have loved being philanthropy chairman this past semester, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have worked with several amazing nonprofit organizations, including the Black Organizing Project, and the Ella Baker Foundation. Philanthropy is the biggest reason I joined Chi O. I'm beyond proud of this chapter's work!" Next semester, Sidney Carrigan '19 is appointed to philanthropy chairman, noting, "I am so honored to be given the opportunity to continue the phenomenal work Kelsey has accomplished during her semester as philanthropy chairman. I can't wait to get started next semester!" This fall, Sidney and Mu Chapter are looking forward to hosting a pancake brunch, Wake Up for Wishes, as well as coordinating our candy grams for students on Game Day, which was a rousing success for Cal Day this past April. As far as academics, Mu Chapter always performs above and beyond year after year. The Panhellenic GPA is 3.60, and Chi Omega obtained a 3.75 GPA. Beth Daughters '20, vice president and head of all scholarly things, is proud to state, "We are consistently above the all-women's UC Berkleley average and one of the top houses on campus as far as academic performance." To encourage academic performance, Beth hosts weekly study tables in the chapter house on Monday and Wednesday nights. In addition, she has implemented incentives such as "Smarty Panties." This is where sisters can submit exam project grades that are above their class average. Every week their name goes into a drawing and a winner is awarded a pair of new undies! Additionally, the Golden Mu recipients for 2022 were awarded. The Golden Mu Committee, consisting of Beth Daughters, Jayda Chan '21 (Foundation Ambassador), and Misty Whitson Tyree, Chi Beta '65 (Scholarship Advisor) recognized four applicants in Mu Chapter The individuals represent outstanding devotion to their academics, community, sisterhood, and financial need. Congratulations to Paula O'Sullivan Comparan '21, Sophia Robles- Mendoza '21, Lexie Garcia '21, and Julia Goswick '20. Looking toward the future, I am preparing for fall primary recruitment, where we will welcome around 1,000 PNMs into our home for the first in-person recruitment at UC Berkeley since 2019. Recruitment will consist of five days of chatting with PNMs and showing them our glorious home and community. I am thrilled to lead and facilitate this recruitment experience for both PNMs and our active members. It will be a challenging process, as most of our current active members have zero experience with in-person recruitment. I am confident, however, in Chi Omega's ability to recruit a phenomenal pledge class. We look forward to an exciting semester ahead!
