Our chapter has been very fortunate to have survived through the years. We should all be grateful for past executive councils and corporate boards for keeping Alpha Mu strong. I still remember the day in October 1996 when I received the telephone call informing me that the chapter house was burning. It was truly distressing for me and all the board members—yet with the support of our alumni, we were able to rise from the ashes like the phoenix and rebuild. Our house is debt-free once again, and the future is bright. We have solid leadership in the undergraduate chapter, and recruiting has gone well the past few years. The recruitment chairman is always in need of prospects to contact! If you know of any men planning to attend ISU this fall, please be sure to pass their names along. See the article below for more information. As always, thanks to all the alumni who contribute so generously to sustain our scholarship fund. It is a tool that is very important in the recruitment of prospective members. Hope to see you in September. Fraternally, Ted Hovda '73 Alumni Corporation Board President tshovda@comm1net.net A s we all know, identifying and recruiting prospective new members is a 24/7 process. The strongest chapters on our campus have an equally strong internal network of alumni brothers assisting in this process. Much has changed in how fraternities recruit prospective new members since you most of you resided at 219 Ash Avenue. Given the restrictions in canceling university housing contracts, most incoming freshmen now live in the residence halls. Our chapter offers all the ingredients for an excellent Greek and college experience—a strong brotherhood, resources for high academic success, and an exemplary reputation on campus; however, the competition to sign outstanding prospective new members is more intense now than ever. Realizing this will be an easier task for some than for others, we passionately request each of you help identify any high school seniors who plan to attend Iowa State University this fall and possess the strong values of our chapter. The undergraduate chapter has selected two outstanding members to lead our summer recruitment program. Please contact them with your recommendations, including their name and contact information. Thank you, with deep appreciation, in advance.
