MOVIE MAGIC Cameo Art House Theatre shows independent films and more F or a touch of old Hollywood in downtown Fayetteville, visit Cameo Art House eatre, which features independent films as well as live concerts and special events. e lobby has an old-time feel with displays of movie memorabilia and a vintage concessions counter serving up popcorn, candy and sodas as well as beer and wine that you can enjoy while watching a movie. Owners Chris and Nasim Kuenzel and Eric Lindstrom bought the historic Dixie eater building in 1998. It was the home of one of Fayetteville's first movie theaters, the New Dixie, beginning in 1914. e Cameo books mainstream movies, but its specialties are art movies, independent films, documentaries and foreign films. ere's a main theater downstairs and a smaller one upstairs. In addition to movies, the Cameo can be rented for private film screenings, fundraisers, birthday parties, and business meetings. Fayetteville State University brings musical acts, national artists and more to Seabrook Auditorium. The council's Art Center Gallery hosts free exhibits throughout the year. Exhibitions are free and open to the public, and they run year-round. The gallery recently moved to the foyer of the Paul H. Thompson Library at 2221 Hull Road. 910-678-0092 Cape Fear Studios Offering art lessons and hosting a community of artists in residence, Cape Fear Studios Inc. is a nonprofit arts organization in downtown Fayetteville. It includes a retail gallery and a main gallery that exhibit art works in an array of media by local, national and international artists. The exhibits are free and open to the public.
