T he cost of college has risen dramatically over the past few decades. When you consider the cost of tuition, room and board, books, and ancillary costs such as fraternity dues, many students struggle to pay for it all. The dues at Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi are no exception and have risen commensurate with the beautiful remodel of the Chapter House. There were nineteen bids handed out this spring semester of 2022. Surely, a few of these young men had to think whether to accept that bid due to the additional financial burden it would impose upon them. In addition, there are probably worthy candidates that don't even go through recruitment because they realize they can't afford Chapter dues. The Alumni of Psi Chapter could help to alleviate those financial challenges. We are in the process of establishing a Psi Alumni Scholarship fund through the Sigma Chi Foundation. These scholarships would be need based and presented to worthy active Psi Brothers. For every $25,000 we raise, we can present a $1,000 scholarship annually. So, if we raise $200,000, we can present eight $1,000 scholarships or four $2,000 scholarships every year. There is also an opportunity to name a scholarship starting with a $25,000 gift or $6,000 per year over five years ($25,000 gift plus $1,000 to scholarship every year). We plan on setting up a giving website through the Sigma Chi Foundation, so stay tuned for more information. We welcomed 19 new members into our brotherhood, which could not have been done without the great work of our recruitment chairman, Jake Hibarger '23, and assistant recruitment chairman, Joseph Connors '24. We look forward to getting to know our new Brothers in the coming years and can't wait to see how they leave a mark on our Chapter. The restrictions on our social events ended this semester, and we could not have been more excited to make up for lost time. Some of our favorite events this semester included our St. Patrick's Day party, Parents Formal Weekend, and Bahamas. Many Brothers also enjoyed a fun-filled spring break in the Dominican Republic. This semester was also a great learning experience for the Chapter as we worked closely with Sigma Chi International Fraternity to get our House up to date with ritual and initiation. We are proud to say that, as of this semester, all members of Psi Chapter have been initiated into Sigma Chi. We look forward to continuing a great relationship with Headquarters and becoming more consistent with the standards of the fraternity. We wish the best of luck to the Brothers in the class of 2022 as they begin the next chapter of their lives! In Hoc, Mateo Aguilar '24 Social Chairman Left: Members at the Sigma Chi Parents Formal. I will try to make my college, the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and my own Chapter more honored by all men and women and more beloved and honestly respected by our own Brothers. I say these words in all sincerity: That Sigma Chi has given me favor and distinction; that the bond of our fellowship is reciprocal, that I will endeavor to so build myself and so conduct myself that will ever be a credit to our Fraternity.
