Lyre Letter Alpha Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at Purdue University SPRING 2022 SEE MORE PHOTOS ON PAGE 2! O ur bond and love for Alpha Chi continue to inspire us to serve this sisterhood that we love. The women have moved out of 851 for the summer, allowing our projects to begin. Alpha Beta Home Corporation Board members initially decided to replace all the house windows in stages, but after looking at the bids and considering rising costs and possible supply chain issues, we voted to replace all old windows at the same time. That has become our big summer project. Not only will new windows enhance the look of the house, but the properly insulated windows will also make the rooms both warmer and cooler as needed. We will be receiving our engineering report and recommendations soon on our overall HVAC/air-handler system, but new windows are a step in the right direction and will help with energy costs. We have a long list of maintenance items to address—just like any homeowner. As we remove and replace windows and blinds, wall repairs will be done room by room, including new paint for the chapter room. We will update you on our progress this fall. The women continue to use our beautiful outdoor patio, and we hope to finish up our wish list and unfinished projects in this space by next summer. The more some things change in this world, the more the "important things" come into focus and stay the same. The women continue to be an inspiration in leadership, philanthropy, sisterhood and unity of spirit at Purdue. Any success we have is because we are part of an incredible team. Our Home Corporation members, collegiate officers and members, advisory board and alumnae chapter members, house director, staff and you are all the most loving and generous Alpha Beta alumnae sisters. Reach out to each other by text, card, social media or phone. Gather when possible, enjoy one another's company and never forget, I am an Alpha Chi Omega. There is that unspeakable bond that is so much bigger than yourself, and only your sisters understand that. Loyally with love in the bond, Bonnie Andrews Hockema '74 bonniehockema@gmail.com Big Plans for Our Chapter House Big Plans for Our Chapter House RENOVATION UPDATES FROM THE HOME CORPORATION A s many of you know, the women of Alpha Beta Chapter remain dedicated to events and activities that honor our philanthropy as well as those of other fraternity and sorority chapters at Purdue. The spring semester was packed with activities as usual! Alpha Beta hosted our annual Alpha Chicken and Waffles events, and we had sisters involved in Pi Kappa Phi's War of Roses and Sigma Chi's Derby Days. Kaia Ocampo '21 won the talent portion for hula dancing during War of Roses, and Julia Rechtzigel '19 was elected Sigma Chi's Sweetheart and led us in winning their sheet-sign competition! Many Alpha Chis are involved on campus and within the community. Meera Murthy '20 and Sarah Eastridge '20 worked hard to earn the title of Boiler Gold Rush Supers, which is an honorable leadership role in the amazing program that acclimates incoming freshmen to Purdue's campus. Haley Rice '19, Grace Odell '19, Haley Gates '21 and I are involved in Purdue's Black Tie Dinner, an event entirely organized by students that creates a space for students to network with recruiters and demonstrate their culinary artwork for guests. Selah Schieber '20 is in the Purdue All-American Marching Band and plays the piccolo, which is a very competitive program and an honor to be a member of. Abby Sullivan '20 is on the Human and Health Sciences student council board. Zoee Huxford '20 is a part of Rising Professionals, an Old Masters program, and was one of 35 hosts who helped welcome and guide young, distinguished alumni back to campus for a two-day program! Lastly, our lovely Anyssa Mujica '20 was elected Miss Elkhart County. We're also proud to report that many women in the house made the dean's list this semester. As you can tell, the Alpha Beta tradition continues—women seeking the heights through their academics, philanthropy and involvement on campus. We appreciate you paving the way for us and our success on campus, and we hope to continue this tradition for our future sisters. Thank you and Boiler Up!
