S ometimes, finding the right fit in a fraternity just comes down to fate. Creighton Hayes '12 went through recruitment for multiple chapters at Mizzou, but none felt like a match. He knew ATΩ was making a return to campus, so he reached out and found the chance to be a part of the brotherhood's recolonization efforts. "I loved the challenge of starting something from the ground up," Creighton said. "My dad and cousin are ATΩ alumni, so it was a no-brainer. Starting as a fledgling colony and leaving as a Chapter of nearly 150 men was a unique experience that meant everything to me. I wouldn't trade those four years of constant ups for anything." Creighton served as worthy master for a brief yet rewarding time during his undergraduate years. "It was awesome to serve in that capacity for a rechartering Chapter," he said. "Watching a group of young men come together to make that happen while having the chance to lead was the best experience I could've asked for." As his senior year approached and Creighton thought more about life after college, he pivoted from a career as a reporter to follow in his grandfathers' footsteps in the military. "Most Gamma Rhos end up as accountants, but I was strongly encouraged by Zac Revermann '12 and Christian Piekos '12 to try and become a Marine Corps officer," Creighton said. Creighton currently serves as a logistics officer in the Marine Corps. He has previously been a motor transport platoon commander and a maintenance management officer, and he presently commands an 80-Marine unit responsible for nuclear weapon security. His career has taken him around the world, as Creighton has been stationed in Quantico, Virginia; Silverdale, Washington; and OCONUS in Okinawa, Japan. "Don't feel like you're trapped in your major or a job in that field," Creighton advises. He grew as a leader during his time with ATΩ, learning valuable skills for communication and adaptation. Without taking a chance on joining a recolonizing Chapter and listening to his brothers about his career, Creighton would not be where he is today. Though he has not been able to stay involved with Gamma Rho since graduation, he fondly recalls dinners with brothers at the Chapter House and lively game days. Creighton is especially proud of Brothers Dan Kelly '17 and Brad Litwicki '17 for becoming Marine officers. Creighton lives in the Pacific Northwest with his Australian Shepherd, Sadie, and he loves to explore Olympic National Park often. He also enjoys checking out local breweries, and he is currently training for an ultra- marathon.
