Instead of a winner-take-all approach, the aim of coopetition is the expansion of a market, resulting in more opportunities and profit for everyone. Coopetition at the local level But does coopetition exist other than in the world of big tech and manufacturing giants? Clark believes the coopetition model fits right in with the mission of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. "We're all about helping businesses grow. And with small business especially, some may have strengths that perfectly fill the gaps that others lack," he explains. "Working together increases the market for both companies. It's a win-win." Taking a page from the playbook of the big firms makes sense—possibly even more sense—for small to mid-size businesses. "It's what co-ops did 70 years ago," Clark points out. "Ozarks Electric Cooperative was formed in 1947—a group of people who got together and said let's bring lights to this area. It's about working together for a common goal."
