Spring 2022 VIKING VIKING a t o f s u . c o m S cott Osteen '90 knew Alpha Tau Omega would be the right for him the first time he visited the Epsilon Sigma chapter house. "I did start out at another house the first night of [recruitment], but after maybe 45 minutes I said to myself, 'Nope!'" He already knew Andy Lunn '88 and Clay Bratton '88 and went to meet them at ATΩ that same evening. "Once I spent that first night there, I was hooked and knew that was the place for me," he said. Being in a fraternity opened many doors for Scott—especially in terms of friendships and connections from all over the nation. He served on the chapter's social committee for a year and was honored to be part of Epsilon Sigma's many accomplishments in his college years: OX Brawl, Homecoming floats, intramural and academic awards, and even two True Merit Awards! "That taught me how important it was, both personally and professionally, to surround myself with people who want to win and accomplish goals." Scott grew up in the family lumber business, and in 2005, he decided to branch out and do his own thing. He took an interest in ACE Hardware, and after a few years of looking, he met a man looking to sell his two stores in Martin County, Florida. They made a deal, and then in 2014, Scott bought a third ACE in the county. In 2019, he opened a new location in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and he will become the new owner of the Apalachee ACE Hardware in Tallahassee later this summer. ACE is Scott's full-time job, but last year he found a thrilling part-time job in the world of NASCAR. He attended the Daytona truck series race in late February, when NASCAR was not yet letting fans back on pit road due to the pandemic. "Legendary driver Joe Nemecheck was at our table, and I said I'd do random pit crew stuff just to get back on pit road!" Scott happened to have a close friend working with that crew, and through that connection Joe recruited Scott to work under his NEMCO Motorsports team. So far, the highlight of Scott's pit crew experience is working the 2022 Daytona 500 with driver Kaz Grala and legendary crew chief Tony Eury Jr. Their crew worked with the #50 car owned by Floyd Mayweather's organization, The Money Team Racing. Scott's coworkers have seen a combined 17 NASCAR Cup championships, working with the likes of Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart. Scott has worked with Stewart Friesen and Jeb Burton as well, and in addition to Daytona, he's worked at the Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Bristol speedways. "It's a lot of fun and hard work, but working four races in four days at Daytona this year was awesome," Scott said. "It's not a full-time job —I help out whenever needed." Scott and his family live in Jupiter, Florida. He and his wife, Amy, both enjoy golf and travel and have gone on several golf trips over the years; they also enjoy just taking their golf cart out and playing at home in Jupiter. Their son, Parker, was accepted to both FSU and UF but is a Seminole through and through. Their daughter, Lindsey, is a high school sophomore and has her sights on FSU as well. "We raised them right!" Scott keeps in touch with Andy Lunn and many other ATΩ brothers through text chains and FSU games. You can reach him at floridianace@gmail.com.
