ENTRE NOUS P i B e t a P h i a t t h e U n i v e r s i t y o f S o u t h e r n C a l i f o r n i a • S p r i n g 2 0 2 2 EDITOR: Laurie Bayless Maslauski '73 | lauriebmaslauski@gmail.com A s I write this, it has been two years since our normal lives were turned upside down. As the live-in members at 667 W. 28th Street left for spring break in 2020 for a week of relaxation and fun, no one could have thought they would come back to a not-so-normal college experience. From Zoom to online classes and remote work, our lives have drastically changed. I think we all have a greater appreciation for the little things in life. Friends and family have become dearer, celebrations have become more precious, and kindness and empathy have become even more of a necessity. California Gamma has been a place of healing and refuge for the past year for many of our Pi Phis since we welcomed our members back into the house. We could not have done this without our hard-working and dedicated staff who weathered the storm with us! We are fortunate to have our House Director Ann and the staff working to make our house a home. This summer, we have many projects we would like to complete. USC stopped providing internet service to students who live off campus, which has been a big struggle for many of the houses on The Row. We have been transferring service to a private provider and working out the kinks of providing members with a faster internet speed for all their devices. Our big project this summer will be an overhaul of our security system and an update to our camera system. Our Pi Phi cameras have been beneficial to keeping our members safe. Through your financial support, we can continue to provide a safe and welcoming home for all our members. Thank you! We are ACTIVELY looking for new Chapter House Corporation (CHC) members. The only prerequisite of being on CHC is that you are a Pi Beta Phi alumna of any chapter. We do most of our work online, so you can live anywhere and still give back to Pi Phi. I hope you take the time and think about how you can give back to California Gamma. Call a friend and ask if they want to join with you! Gratefully, Susan Brownfield Beall '85 Chapter House Corporation President thebealls@yahoo.com A LIFETIME OF SISTERHOOD California Gamma Looks to a Successful Future W ith our first in-person spring semester in over two years, the women of California Gamma have realized we have a lot to be grateful for. Pi Phi has not only allowed us to cultivate Sincere Friendships, but it has also unlocked our strong intellectual and leadership potential. Through our education from USC and our experience in Pi Phi, we know that our futures are bright and our opportunities are endless. RECRUITMENT Although the pandemic halted in-person events, we had an incredible virtual recruitment in January thanks to the dedicated efforts of our recruitment team, including outgoing Vice President Recruitment Anne Elizabeth Blackburn '19, incoming Vice President Recruitment Anna Kerwin '20, Director Recruitment Events Julia Weinerman '21, outgoing Director Membership Selection Clarissa O'Connor '19, and incoming Director Membership Selection Priscilla Levy '20. Recruitment ran flawlessly and, most importantly, we are proud to welcome 61 amazing new women to our sisterhood. We are all so proud of our New Member class and the outstanding qualities they bring to our chapter and are excited to watch them develop into dedicated members and chapter leaders. Together Again Collegians Continue to Host Extraordinary Events (Continued on page 2) From left: Maya Heslov '22, Julia Guglielmo '22, and Emilie Alvarez '22 are ready for in-person Bid Day!
