This fall, Melissa and Jessica are making a collaborate effort to plan AEPhi's centennial luncheon. "I had a meaningful sorority experience, so I saw coordinating the luncheon as an opportunity to give back to the organization that gave so much to me," Jessica shared. Melissa also noted the heart and dedication Andrea Cronig Mindell '79 puts into Rho Chapter: "Even when I was a bullheaded 20-year-old, Andrea always made room for me to grow and learn; her continuous contributions to the chapter inspired me to get involved." "Andrea has always been a great friend, cheerleader, and encouragement," Jessica added. When Melissa and Jessica lived in the chapter house, Rho had 40 members; today, the flourishing chapter consists of more than 150. As the sisterhood grows, Andrea's commitment to serving the chapter never falters. After Melissa and Jessica reflected on the times Andrea offered a helping hand to them in times of need, there was no hesitation to get involved in helping to make the widespread event a success. Planning an event in the midst of a pandemic, however, has its challenges. "Living in New York, I'm very adamant on COVID-19 protocol, so I wanted to ensure the event would be a safe, comfortable experience for everyone," Jessica shared. Because staying safe and healthy is a major priority of hosting the luncheon, the event was repeatedly postponed. "We initially planned for March, but the Omicron variant had other plans. So, if regulations continue to dissipate, then we're hoping we can reunite this fall," Jessica announced. "There's also a football game against Arkansas State that weekend, and it's a great way to reconnect with or meet new sisters. The more alumnae in attendance, the more fun the event will be!" Aside from the centennial luncheon, Melissa and Jessica always make an effort to stay in touch with their sisters. Jessica recounts group chats, Zoom calls, and reunions that have kept her connected: "Distance doesn't keep us apart from our sisters. We've had sisters lose family members, get married, and have children, and we always show up for each other," Jessica shared. Melissa hopes she can stay more connected in the future, but she manages with what time and work availability will allow. "I rely on Jessica for most AEPhi updates, but I'm always staying in touch with my roots; when I'm hiring people at work, I take into account if someone is Greek affiliated, as it shows me someone is skilled, wholehearted, and committed," Melissa stated. The centennial luncheon is scheduled for Sunday, September 11. There will be countless reunions, laughs, and memories to be made. Sisterhood is everlasting. By blood or by affiliation, Jessica recognizes the impact a shared understanding can make. "The quilt we sew at AEPhi is huge, and I hope that's something people remember when considering attending the luncheon," Melissa added.
