MAY 2022 RETAILOBSERVER.COM 13 continued on page 34 One Bad Ombre Floating back-to-back vanities gave more privacy between his and her sinks, and provided a much more interesting use of a large space. I designed a tubular double-sided steel mirror that housed pendant lights and hand towel bars attached through the slab to the floor between the vanities. A clean single waterfall countertop spanning the entire surface in Cambria's Ella Matte quartz made the back-to-back vanities appear as one. The MTI Continuum sinks feature a piece of the slab in the center on posts, creating a hidden drain and an infinity-edge effect. Staggered and intertwined chandeliers were mounted above the vanities to complete the focal point and fill some of the empty air space in this 13' tall room. Large steel and mirror barn doors flank the entrance and allow for privacy from the bedroom when needed. The vanities are painted in Sherwin Williams Really Teal with silver leaf edges and custom Buster and Punch hardware. A secondary piece was used to create the makeup vanity area with a cantilevered waterfall countertop mounted over it with a seating area for the vanity stool. The large adjoining master closet was also completely redesigned to provide functional storage and a dressing area, as well as a new laundry space. A lavish rain shower feature was designed with a combination of a Newport Brass rain shower head, handheld body sprayer, and two 30" rain bars by Jaclo. Since the ceilings were 13' high, I needed to design a lower horizontal structure that we could mount the rain bars to. The solution was a wooden trellis concept that spanned from the water closet over the makeup vanity across to the wall where the shower ended. The solid beams were treated in a shou sugi ban finish for durability and aesthetic, and the water pipes were hidden inside the tops of the notched-out beams so we could mount the rain bars to them. The infinity drain and stationary glass panel with steel perimeter kept the shower design simpler and allowed the bold ombre mosaic wall tile to become the focus. The ombre tile continues all the way down to the bay window walls where the Porcelanosa freestanding tub sits suspended on steel legs. I also continued the shower pan all the way from the shower down to the tub area to create a cozier space. A simple clear acrylic chair sits next to the tub and serves as an impromptu towel stand, chair and table so we did not have to interfere with the dramatic tiles in this space.
