Inside... 2 Alumnus Spotlight 2 Welcome, New Members 3 Embracing Excellence SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2022 T he spring semester is almost over, and all is well at 1224 Fremont. The men initiated a class of four spring pledges in February, fall 2022 recruitment is underway, and Derby Days is around the corner. The chapter house has been at or near capacity every semester since the renovation was completed and always well above our budgeted census. The successes of Sigma Chi are a direct result of the time, talent, and treasure contributed by you, the alumni of this chapter. For that, we say thank you! Our A New Era capital campaign that was started in 2015 and chaired by Mark Whitehead '79 raised $2.7 million in pledges. The last pledge payments are due in 2022, and we are pleased to say that we have collected 96% of the money pledged so far. To put that in perspective, the industry standard for an effort such as this considers 90% collection to be outstanding. Thank you for your generosity; it has enabled the long-needed renovation of our chapter facility, which has been a key factor in the recruitment success of the chapter. In addition to the monetary gifts of the campaign, we have numerous alumni who have given significant time and expertise to the management of the chapter. This includes two groups that are directly involved with the officers and members of the chapter: the Chapter Advisory Board and the House Corporation Board of Directors. They have overlapping roles and are both important in the ongoing success of the chapter. The Chapter Advisory Board consists of David Compton '89, John Seitzer '88, Scott Green '92, Blake Moroney '12, and Doug Burton '89. They interact directly with members of the chapter and serve in an advisory fashion for chapter operations. The House Corporation members are Doug Burton '89 (president), David Sell '88 (secretary), Angela Cunningham (treasurer), Dwane Beckenhauer '78, Mike Carson '95, Mark Whitehead '79, Blake Moroney '12, John Seitzer '88, and Ben Retter '99. This group is directly responsible for the finances and maintenance of the physical structure, including identifying and supervising repairs during the school year and over the summer. The efforts of all of you have made a tremendous difference in the trajectory of our chapter and the lives of our undergraduate brothers. Thank you for all you have done and will do in the future. If any of you would like to become more involved in any of the alumni activities or have specific questions about these efforts or the chapter, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. This effort was launched in 2021 to provide perpetual benefits to the undergraduates of the chapter in the areas of scholarship and leadership. Sam Forrer '63 and Jim Schroeder '63 provided lead gifts to the campaign last year, and we need your help to cross the finish line. The Bell Chapter Challenge, a program of the Sigma Chi Foundation, provides permanent annual benefits to the chapter, including priority access to Sigma Chi's licensed and soon-to-be accredited leadership programs, $4,000 per year in academic scholarships, travel reimbursements for chapter attendance at Sigma Chi programs, and more. Our chapter is poised to be the first chapter in the state of Kansas to reach this milestone, distinguishing us as a premier chapter in Sigma Chi. Sigma Chi Foundation's research has shown that Bell chapters outperform non-Bell chapters in several areas of operational excellence, including academic performance, campus involvement, community service, and philanthropy. Stay tuned for more information about this campaign as it progresses, and you'll be hearing more about how our undergraduate brothers are benefiting from this program as well.
