By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear Quartzsite, AZ - On Thursday, April 7, 2022, the Quartzsite Town Council held a special meeting to discuss qualifi cations of three candidates who fi led to run for Town Council: Mike Roth, Dennis Vosper, and Sam Saxton. The last day candidates could fi le was Monday, April 4th. Council members voted unani- mously that Quartzsite resident Mike Roth is not qualifi ed to run for Town Council position due to owing the Town funds for failure to pull a permit fi nes and utility fi nes. Council members also declared Quartzsite resident Dennis Vosper is not a qualifi ed candi- date for Quartzsite Town Council due to owing campaign violation fi ne from 2020. The vote was 6-1 with Saxton abstaining. Council members also declared recently appointed Council Mem- ber Sam Saxton is not a qualifi ed candidate for Quartzsite Town Council due to owing campaign violations fi nes from 2020. Vote was 4-2 with Vice Mayor Loretta Warner and Council Member Starr BearCat abstaining. According to Town of Quartzsite, AZ Code of Ordinance § 30.09 QUALIFICATION OF COUNCIL CANDIDATES. (A) The Town Council shall judge the elections, qualifi cations and returns of its members pursuant to A.R.S. § 9-234. Such qualifi cations shall not only include those contained within A.R.S. Title 16, but also any contained within this town code. (B) The qualifi cations for eligibil- ity of Mayor or Council candidates for election to these positions in- cludes the requirement that no delinquent or fi xed fi nes and pen- alties, user fees, permit fees and sales tax be owed to the town at the time of declaration of candidacy. (C) Council members, candidates and appointees for town elected and appointed offi ce shall be held to certain standards of conduct, March 19-20, 2022 Phil Bates, owner of The Main Trading Post, The Stage & Outback Pizza, had a great time with his new Camel display at Buck Connors Western Days hosted by the Town of Quartzsite!
