BY GEORGE DICKIE You were at one time going to pursue a baseball career? Yeah, that was my first dream. I got drafted by Boston and Baltimore coming out of high school but my mother wouldn't let me go into the draft because she wanted me to get a college education. And so I played varsity baseball on scholarship at Santa Clara University up north. But yeah, that was my dream. My uncle, my mother's brother, his name is Steven Wilson. He played in the farm system for the Red Sox a hundred years ago and I watched him play as a little kid. And he put me on my first Little League team and I realized that I had a pretty good arm and I grew into baseball. It became my first love of sport and I was a pitcher and an outfielder. When you hosted "Soul Train," did you ever get to meet Don Cornelius? He's the one who hired me. He came to me when I was on "The Young and the Restless" and asked me if I wanted to go in his footsteps and fill his shoes. Well, there's no way I can fill his shoes but I can bring my version of it to it. And that was a good time in my life. It was a lot of fun.
