Sharing community bathrooms and showers, and sleeping with 20 other guys in a cold-air dorm brings back some funny memories for us Alumns. What it doesn't do is help us recruit new, top-tier Pike candidates. It's 2022. Student housing expectations at ISU have changed. Together, the Alumni Association and House Corporation have developed a plan to address the long-term housing goals for our chapter. A strategy is being developed with Des Moines- based Simonson & Associates Architects and Neumann Bros general contractors that we believe is critical to the future of Alpha Phi. The proposed project will include historic preservation of the existing Pike House while updating floor plans and facilities designed for the times, site improvements and more. Many, many details are still being considered and finalized. We are excited to share much more detailed plans to preserve and improve 2112 by late summer. PREPARING 2112 LINCOLN WAY FOR THE FUTURE. HOUSE CORP. The Pi Kappa Alpha Union has been taking steps to modernize board operating procedures as the alumni base works to support the return of the Alpha Phi Chapter. We have been working to recruit alumni to the board who have professional commercial property experience. In the last year, three alumni who fit this profile have stepped up to serve. Last summer, Michael Cowan '00 and Clint Schmitz '03 were elected to the Board. In January 2022, Guy Packard '81 was elected. All three bring diversified and extensive commercial professional experience to the board. Since the annual meeting at Super Homecoming, Mark Zirkelbach '67, Alex Olson '04 and Alan Foster '05 were reelected to three year terms through January 2025. This brings the current board composition to 9 elected members and two alternates. Modernization steps were taken in order to keep the entire alumni base involved and informed on actions taken in support of our beloved 2112 Lincoln Way. As the Union continues to maintain 2112 Lincoln Way, the Board voted unanimously in 2021 to establish a $500,000 line of credit with the Bank of New Glarus. These funds were used to pay off the mortgage debt of $166,000 and provide funds for maintaining the house during the Chapter's silent period. Both votes were sent to all alumni members of the Pi Kappa Alpha Union for a vote and were ratified. The Union Board meets monthly via video conference as we navigate this difficult time for Alpha Phi and push forward with the modernization plans for 2112 Lincoln Way: The House that Built Us. The House Corporation remains committed to providing relevant fraternal housing at Iowa State and keeping our alumni actively involved in the work of the Union. -Alex Olson, House Corporation President
