Beyond the apple trees, Lincoln offers a wide variety of outdoor adventures, festivals and events for residents and visitors alike. e city's beautiful parks and hiking trails are just the beginning for those looking to enjoy the natural offerings of the area. ere are numerous opportunities for rock climbing, biking, kayaking and canoeing. ere is even a breathtaking overlook known for its frequent sightings of bald eagles. Parks A favorite destination for those seeking fun in the outdoors is lincoln lake City Park. Lincoln Lake is 400 acres of pure outdoor enjoyment. e potential activities include hiking, fishing, mountain biking, rock climbing, boating, and it is also a nesting home for bald eagles. e rock climbing here is commonly referred to as "little Devil's Den", and offers some of the most easily accessible bluffs in Northwest Arkansas. Lincoln Lake also has multiple trails; Spillway Loop, Eagle View Trail, Piney Loop, and Lake Loop Trail, all of which vary in length and are well maintained throughout the year. e 90-acre lake is also a prime spot for canoeing and kayaking, and is considered the jewel of the Lincoln parks and recreation system. e town garden and Park was designed to be a community garden for the city. e idea behind the garden was to give residents the chance to support the local charities by growing fresh produce for their distribution. e innovative project also gives local residents a hands-on opportunity to be involved and experience the joys of gardening for a good cause. One of the newer parks, Bumblebee Park features a basketball court, picnic pavilion, playground, barbecue grills, and plenty of green space for a variety of outdoor activities like egg hunts, sports, picnicking, and more. e name for Bumblebee Park came to be as a result of local poll from the community. is park has been a welcomed and successful addition to the Lincoln parks department. History e town of Lincoln also is known for several historical reminders of our state and country's past. e Bean Cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only cemetery in the country that is the final resting place of slave laborers who died while building the railroad through the town. e Arkansas County Doctor Museum is one of only two country doctor museums in the United States, the museum occupies the former private home and clinic of three country doctors who lived there from 1926 to 1978. e exhibits include medical instruments, memorabilia, an antique horse buggy and vintage car. Located approximately six miles southeast of Lincoln, Cane Hill College was the home of the state's first institute of higher education, the first library and the first Sunday School. e college relocated to Clarksville and is now the University of the Ozarks. Several buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places; Battle of Cane Hill is where the first shots of the Prairie Grove Campaign took place on Nov. 28, 1862. events arkansas aPPle Festival e Arkansas Apple Festival is a highlight for Lincoln in the fall every year. e festival has an arts and cras fair with more than 60 booths that feature handmade pottery, carvings, paintings, quilts, and more. ere is also live music each day, a talent show, parade, apple core throwing contest, and all visitors are welcomed with free apple slices and apple cider. In addition to the arts and cras booths, there are also fried apple pies, dumplings, and of course, bags of apples.
