DELTA PSI NEWS 2 A Passion for Serving Others Carolyn Simpson '70 Dedicates 50 Years of Service to Kappa Kappa Gamma T he decision to join Kappa Kappa Gamma was an easy one for Carolyn Simpson '70. "I loved the women I met in recruitment, and I felt we had shared values," Carolyn divulged. e simple decision to join the sorority led to more than 50 years of liveliness, laughs, leadership, and love within the organization. From all her countless memories, such as Texas Tech football games, spring break trips, and game nights, Carolyn has a fond reflection of her experience as an undergraduate. "I personally benefited from the leadership experiences within the chapter as well as the support the chapter gave me to pursue opportunities," Carolyn acknowledged. As Carolyn looked back at her collegiate years, there was no doubt in her mind that everyone should aim to stay involved in the sorority as much as possible. "I attended my first National Kappa Convention as an active. At the convention, I realized that Kappa was much bigger than just my chapter at Texas Tech." During the convention, Carolyn discovered a yearning to learn about Kappa in every sense—the history, the values, and the sisterhood. "As an alumna, I was fortunate to hold several local leadership positions, including for alumnae chapters, advisory boards, and the house corporation board," Carolyn explained. Since 1993, Carolyn has served as province director of alumnae, regional director of alumnae, a member of the KKG Foundation Board of Trustees, panhellenic specialist, director of chapters on the fraternity council, and more. "One of my favorite Kappa positions, however, was serving as capital campaign chairman for Delta Psi's building campaign," Carolyn shared. "We knew that Delta Psi had outgrown our wonderful facility on Greek Circle, so we deliberated a plan to meet the chapter's growing needs." Aer Carolyn collaborated with Dean Verner Loehr '71, Susan Jones Millsap '67, Vicki Lafitte Gay '72, and LeAnn Martin Grantham '76, they decided the best route for providing the best facility for Kappas was to demolish the building and start fresh. Happily taking on a fundraiser role for the project, Carolyn is thrilled to see the outcome: "Our second beautiful Delta Psi lodge graces Greek Circle as a home away from home for chapter women; it reflects the elegance and warmness that is a hallmark of Delta Psi." Since recently moving to Richmond, Virginia, Carolyn has been enjoying living close to family and pursuing her Cabi clothing business in which she meets and bonds with other strong- willed, empowering women. "One of the first things I did when I moved to Richmond was contact the local Kappa Alumnae Association," Carolyn shared. Over 50 years of service has taught her that friendships and connections with Kappas are strong (and continuing to grow!) due to their shared values, mutual respect, and common experiences, such as Ritual. From her years of assisting and learning from Kappa, Carolyn has one piece of advice to share with active members and younger alumnae—get involved. "ere are plenty of Kappa volunteer opportunities that will meet your needs," Carolyn stated. "Kappa needs you!"
