SigEp A PUBLICATION FOR ALUMNI OF MISSOURI ALPHA t SIGMA PHI EPSILON SPRING 2022 Tiger Heart I was nominated at our Alumni and Volunteer Corporation (AVC) meeting last August to take on the role of AVC President, and I accepted for one reason: because I'm not at all alone in continuing the rebuilding of MO Alpha. Stalwart AVC Treasurer Dave LaRusso '76 continues his mastery of our financial world, Vice President of Operations Greg Raeman '91 continues his run of getting things done, and Secretary Mason Laster '84 has taken on and elevated my previous role. And thanks to chapter counselor Ed Clausen '84, we have a direct and continual link to all undergraduate happenings. A special thanks to Mark Schordock '84, who led us as AVC President for the past year as we completed the foundation and began the brick-by-brick process of creating the No. 1 fraternity at Mizzou. Thankfully, Mark remains highly engaged in finances with Dave and the undergraduates. There's strength in numbers, and boy we do have strength: a dozen highly engaged volunteers as our Board of Directors, and just as many serving as hands-on mentors to our undergraduate officers. And so much more: some 1,500 living MO Alpha alumni helping as professional mentors to the undergraduates, speakers for our Balanced Man Program, financial supporters, and recruiters to bring in today's generation of outstanding brothers. This expansive team of brothers has us on a SpaceX trajectory. Last August's Tiger Heart reported total membership of 40 men who were preparing to move into 405 Kentucky after a more than three-year absence. As I write this column, we're settled into a fully remodeled house, displaying national SigEp awards (recruitment and scholarship) on the mantel, and are sporting membership of 55 high-quality undergraduate brothers. NOW MY REQUEST TO YOU, DEAR BROTHERS: Help us accelerate that trajectory...Here's how: • RECRUITMENT: Do you have a son or acquaintance who would make a good MO Alpha member? Send him to our Balanced Man Scholarship link at missouri.sigep.org/bms, or just shoot his contact info and a brief description to VP of Recruitment Jayden Reyes '24 (jreyesjayden01@gmail.com). • MORE RECRUITMENT: Summer '22 recruitment success is critical to our continued trajectory. I've promised the undergraduates a shopping list of alumni-supported recruitment events: Cards and Royals games, swim parties, farm gatherings, you name it. Supply the venue and we'll do the work! Please email me at abaer@hme.com today if you can help. • FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Getting 405 Kentucky back to world-class condition was expensive. With your help, we'd like to retire that debt, upgrade some furniture and equipment, and fund our Balanced Man Scholarship fund. Email Vern Smith '73 (vsmith@fedsteel.com) or Mark Schordock '84 (mark.schordock@gcserv.com) to see how you can best make an impact. • ENGAGEMENT: Help an undergraduate as a mentor or speak to a group of young brothers about your professional or personal path. Email President Andy Hinkamp '24 (amhmnb@mail.missouri.edu) to help! You read in our previous issue that SigEp nationally and at Mizzou have redefined the fraternity experience with no-hazing membership and substance-free housing. Having spent time with our undergraduates at 405, I can assure you that, if anything, the new SigEp model enhances the brotherhood that we have all enjoyed since we first walked into that house. I thank each and every one of you for helping to keep that MO Alpha tradition going and growing. Fraternally, Adam Baer '85 AVC President abaer@hme.com Fueling the MO Alpha Rocketship Join Us!
