SISTERHOOD BEGINS AT HOME –
OUR CHALLENGES AND NEEDS
Setting Sigma Apart from the Competition
While Tri Sigma continues to attract outstanding young women, there is no question the sorority house is a vital
recruiting tool. We know it is possible that we are losing quality potential members to Alpha Sigma Alpha and
Alpha Gamma Delta. Alpha Gam built a brand-new house in fall 2019 (pictured left), and Alpha Sig did a major
interior renovation in the last five years. Tri Sigma is the last sorority chapter to renovate or rebuild its home. In
addition, major renovations have been made to campus housing, and there are many new or newly renovated
apartment complexes near campus.
H
ome to hundreds of sisters for more than 50 years, the Chi Chapter House has been a place of comfort, sisterhood, development, and achievement. Due to
our aging facility and the evolving needs of our members, however, it became evident Chi needs a new home to address today's challenges.
50 Years of Wear and Tear
Originally a ranch-style family home, the chapter house was never intended or equipped to be a sorority facility.
In the past several years, the Housing Corporation has repaired several recurring issues, including plumbing,
security features, Wi-Fi, and heating and cooling. Even though the corporation invests time and money into the
aging facility, these solutions are short-term fixes. We are faced with deeper issues that impact our membership
satisfaction and recruitment outcomes.
Limited Space to Grow Our Sisterhood
We are proud to have more than 80 undergraduate members today. However, we have outgrown the current
facility and need a space that will allow future growth. Due to fire department codes, the beloved dormer no
longer has double bunk beds, and the house has a maximum capacity of 20 women. The facility is not built for
commercial use and can no longer accommodate our growing chapter.
