Editor@DesertMessenger.com WE ACCEPT On February15, 2022, the local EAA Chapter 1144 met at Indian Hills Airpark's Community Room. One pilot recently fl ew to The Dalles, Oregon trying out a new piece of equipment. The de- vice, an ADS-B In, detects other planes in their immediate area. He stated it was a very useful device that should be added to any general avi- ation (GA) aircraft. A recent letter from the US Department of The Air Force announced several meetings to receive public input for an environmental im- pact statement in the military's request to ex- pand their training airspace over the state of Arizona. Several pilots from the Indian Hills Airpark attended the one held in Congress. While there are a number of Military Opera- tions Areas (MOAs) being affected by this re- quest, the Bagdad/Gladden MOA is a concern for local pilots. This MOA includes Salome and Bouse, north to Lake Alamo, Bagdad, Hillside and Yarnell, south to Wickenburg. The military is proposing to change the published times of use (day or night), reduce fl ight training eleva- tion maneuvers to 500 feet above the ground and using chaff and fl ares. There are two air- parks in Salome alone, Aguila has three more with many dirt strips located within the Bagdad and Gladden MOA. This area is also home to Alamo Lake State Park and seven wilderness areas. The impact to wildlife, not to mention the campers/tourists/land owners, will have a major environmental and economic impact to our area. March 4th was the deadline to sub- mit comments pro or con on the request. Visit the project website arizonaregionalairspaceeis. com to see a map of affected areas and follow its progress. Contact Senators Mark Kelly and/ or Kristen Senema to express your concerns and you may also contact your state legislators for their thoughts. Remember, EAA (Experimental Aircraft Asso- ciation) is open to anyone who is/was a pilot or has an interest in aircraft. Feel free to contact the President, Tim Steier, 507-525-3068, if you have questions about this organization. Judie New, 2022 Chapter Secretary EAA Chapter 1144 Western Arizona, Inc. update
