Corning Patriots - 6 p.m. Thursday at the Corning Senior Center 1015 4th Ave. Last week the Corning Patriots hosted a representative from Corning Union Elementary School District to speak as proponents of the new Common Core State Standards. This Thursday, their speaker is Angela Davidson Weinzinger, founder of a group called Parents and Educators Against Common Core Standards. This is a public meeting for all community members; to hear the opposition, ask questions and find answers. Schools need improvement, but is this truly the right answer? Public involvement is needed, our children are the future and we need to be part of the decision making. "If not you, who? If not now, when?" Olive Festival Parade & Bed Races – Parade entry forms have been sent out to those who have participated in the past parades. If you did not receive one and would like to be in the Olive Festival Parade, you can pick one up at the Chamber office or call and we will mail it to you. There will be an opportunity for youth and children to participate again this year but they must have a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian. There are permission slips at the Chamber office and they will also be at the event. Farmers' Market – The Farmers' Market is growing and there are lots of fruits and vegetables as well as very nice hand crafted items and hot and ready to eat tamales for sale. The market is located at Northside Park from 5-8 p.m. and will continue every Thursday until September 26. Come and check out the fresh produce and enjoy the park environment. If you are interested in selling at the market, call 824-5550 or visit the Chamber office, 1110 Solano Street, to pick up an application. The booth space is free.
