The commissioners recently approved new procedures for submitting and approving these special proclamations. Requests no longer have to appear on the board's consent agenda for approval. Instead, requests are approved as they are received by the Clerk to the Board's office. They may be submitted in writing through the county's website at http://www.co.cumberland.nc.us/commissioners/ citizens_100yrs.aspx. "Many of these individuals have been part of our county's rich history and this is just a small gesture by Cumberland County to show our appreciation for their contributions to our heritage," said Chairman Jimmy Keefe. The commissioners will only issue a proclamation for a Cumberland County resident. Requests must be submitted at least 10 business days prior to the event; applications received after the deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis and requesters will be advised if issuance cannot occur by the event date. Backdated proclamations will not be issued. Additional procedures are listed with the online application. For more information, contact Candice White at cwhite@co.cumberland.nc.us or call 678-7771.
