However, main host Mike Tirico was on location in Beijing, as were "Today's" Craig Melvin and reporters including Stephanie Gosk, Steve Patterson and Janis Mackey Frayer. (Though Savannah Guthrie was Tirico's co-host for the opening cere- mony, she accomplished that from the U.S.) ABC News sent the Lon- don-based Maggie Rulli to China to lead its reports on the Olympics. Jamie Yuccas had the same duty for CBS News' various platforms ... and most of the on-site correspondents worked inside a "bubble" de- signed to protect their health while they were at the Games. One story by Rulli memorably detailed all of the rigorous checkpoints she had to go through to enter the country. "Buck Rogers" came along in 1939, then Crabbe continued to work in adventure and Western movies through the 1940s and found television success as "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion" in the mid-1950s. Crabbe also made a guest appearance on the "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" TV series in the late 1970s, as a character named Gordon.
