Members were recognized for their accomplishments during 2021. The Attendance Award was presented to Cathy Holmes; the Recycling Award was earned by Meredith Byers- Burton; and Outstanding Member was awarded to Kay Dalton. During 2021, ECA members participated in community service projects including handmade cards for home-bound individuals, lovey-bunny blankets for babies, and books for children. The group donated magazines to nursing homes and food and cooking supplies to families in need. They also awarded a $500 college scholarship to a local high school student and recycled over 4,000 pounds of recyclable material. Activities also included hosting educational programs and district meetings, assisting Extension agents with summer youth programs, and planning new projects for 2022. ECA is an outreach of Family & Consumer Sciences through N.C. State Extension. Its mission is to strengthen families through leadership development, community action, and educational programs. During the next two years, ECA members will participate in the National Project in Common: BEE-cause Pollinators Feed the World. Programs and workshops will be presented to various groups in the county about the importance of pollinators such as bees, butterfl ies, and hummingbirds, and ways to protect their survival.
