BY GEORGE DICKIE In Sundance Now's "Close to Me," you play Jo, a housewife who has trouble trusting her own perception after a fall down stairs. How did you get into this character's headspace? I did a lot of research, obviously, about brain injury. But a lot of it really is just I think really felt. I think she reflects an experience that's shared by most women and so it wasn't a difficult thing to try to put yourself into once I understood how brain injuries work and what that feels like. I really felt it was more about getting her tone. She has a really sort of dark humor and she's kind of really funny. But like a lot of people, she's really hard on herself. She can be vicious in the way she thinks about herself and I wanted to get that tone just right, the needling but also the sort of sense that everything is a cosmic joke on her.
