The event will be at 8 p.m. Friday, July 26 at Old "Complete Circle," an exhibition of recent ceramic work by Palul, a local master ceramic artist, will be showing at the North Valley Art League during the month of August. This exhibition features large classical forms exploring color, texture and symbolism in abstract landscape motifs. These pieces are the result of more than 43 years of clay experience. Palul (aka: Paul Rideout), 72, is a ceramics instructor for Shasta College as well as a fine artist. "In 1970 when I first started in clay I looked around in history and concluded the best pots were the classical forms of the Sung Dynasty of the 1200s," Palul said. "I tried to emulate them and now after over 40 years in clay I have begun to approach them — except I'm from the 20th century. New technologies have pushed aside the old boundaries of the Sung. I wanted to blend the old with the new by breaking up the many personal landscapes in my head into works of art by reconstructing fragments using a multitude of decorative techniques that I have acquired over the years. The complete circle starts with nature and ends with nature." The duration of the show is from July 30 to Aug. 24. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The gallery is at 48 Quartz Hill Road in Redding, in Caldwell Park near the pool. There will be a reception 5-8 p.m. Aug. 10 during Saturday night art walk. Palul will speak about his recent work during the NVAL general meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 26. The public is invited. For further information visit Palul.com and www.nval.org.
