The Giants moved within a game of NL West leader San Diego, which lost 2-1 to Arizona. The Braves lead over Philadelphia fell to one in the NL East. The Phillies beat the New York Mets 7- 5. The Giants scored the tying run in the ninth without a hit and the go-ahead run in the 11th when Atlanta reliever Peter Moylan (3-2) walked the bases loaded ahead of Burrell’s fly ball. Aubrey Huff opened the 11th with a walk and moved to second when Buster Posey walked. Juan Uribe hit into a forceout, with Huff reaching third. After two balls to Pablo San- doval, he was intentionally walked. That loaded the bases for Burrell, whose fly to left easily scored Huff. Javier Lopez (3-2) picked up the win with a scoreless 10th and Brian Wilson got his 32nd save in 35 attempts with a hitless 11th. The Giants tied it at 2 in the ninth without hit as the Braves made two errors. Huff was hit by a pitch leading off the inning against Atlanta closer Billy Wagner. Posey then reached on a throwing error by shortstop Alex Gon- zalez before Uribe flied to right, Huff advancing to third. Sandoval then reached when third baseman Chipper Jones fumbled his grounder, allowing Huff to score the tying run. Posey took third and San- doval second. Burrell was walked intentionally to load the bases but Travis Ishikawa ended the threat by hit- ting into a double play. Tommy Hanson pitched seven strong innings and Gonzalez and Jones hit solo home runs for Atlanta’s two runs. Hanson allowed three hits and one run in seven innings to gain his first win since July 3. He walked two and struck out three. Jones hit his 10th home run in the sixth inning off Barry Zito to break a 1- 1 tie. Gonzalez hit his third home run as a Brave and second in two games in the fifth. He hit a 2-run shot Thursday night in Atlanta’s 3-2 win over San Francisco. Jones had three of Atlanta’s six hits. Burrell had two of San Francisco’s four hits. He went 2 for 2 with a pair of walks. The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Andres Torres led off the game with a single, stole second and third and scored on a groundout by Huff. Zito went seven innings and allowed four hits, two runs, walked two and struck out 10. OAKLAND (AP) — Cliff Lee has no interest in discussing his accomplish- ments thus far — all the strikeouts to so few walks, all the outings he’s worked deep into games. Nah, not yet. He wants to pitch the Texas Rangers into the playoffs before anything else. Lee went at least eight innings for the 10th straight start, Taylor Tea- garden hit a two-run homer and the first-place Rangers built their biggest division lead in 11 years with a 5-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Fri- day night. ‘‘I’m not going to sit here and pat myself on the back for anything,’’ Lee said. ‘‘I just want to give my team a chance to win every time I take the mound.’’ Lee (10-5), who won for the first time in three starts, struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter in eight innings. The Rangers moved a season-best 19 games over .500 (64-45). Josh Hamilton added a solo homer for the Rangers in the opener of a key series between the AL West’s top two teams. Texas won its third straight and increased its division lead to 9 1/2 games ahead of the A’s. This marks the Rangers’ largest division lead since being 10 games up on Oct. 2, 1999, a day before they won the West that year by eight games over Oakland at 95-67. ‘‘You can’t take any- thing for granted,’’ Lee said. ‘‘There’s still a lot of season left. We want to clinch it as soon as we can. But a lot of things can hap- pen. We can’t get compla- cent or content.’’ Lee quickly found his groove after falling behind in the first. He gave up a one-out triple to Daric Barton in the first, then Kurt Suzuki followed with an RBI double to give Oakland the early lead. After Barton’s one-out sin- gle in the third, he retired 16 of the next 17 batters before consecutive two- out singles by Barton and Suzuki. Lee received a mound visit from pitching coach Mike Maddux, then struck out Kevin Kouzmanoff. Frank Francisco worked the ninth to finish the 2- hour, 19-minute game. At 112 pitches, manag- er Ron Washington decid- ed Lee was done. ‘‘He didn’t need to go back out there. He’s our horse, but we’ve also got to protect him when we can,’’ Washington said. ‘‘What’s marvelous is you know what’s coming and you still can’t do a heck of a lot with it. That’s a model pitcher right there.’’ Lee didn’t walk a batter for the 12th time in 19 starts. He has allowed only nine free passes all season while striking out 126. He was coming off a 4-1 loss his last time out Sunday against the Angels in Ana- heim despite his career- best seventh complete game of the year. The lefty has thrown at least eight innings in all five of his starts since joining the Rangers in a trade from the Mariners on July 9. During this three-game winning streak, the Rangers have scored 22 runs on 33 hits after man- aging only five runs and 14 hits in their previous three contests. ‘‘This team’s got one goal right now: to get to the playoffs,’’ Teagarden said. ‘‘That’s a nice lead but there are a lot of games left.’’ A’s starter Dallas Braden (6-8), coming off a complete game win over the White Sox in Chicago last Saturday, was done after six innings after com- plaining of a tender jaw following a dental proce- dure earlier in the week. He was trying to win third straight start after a nine-start winless stretch in which he went 0-5 after his improbable perfect game against the Rays on May 9. ‘‘I’ve had the procedure a couple of times,’’ Braden said. ‘‘I already marked that one off my list. It’s a tooth on my right side and I had it taken out Tuesday. It was to the point where when I took a breath in the fourth inning the cold hit the area and my head was pounding and my neck was tight. Those are all side notes though. I was unimpressive at best.’’ A’s reliever Brad Ziegler had trouble in the eighth. He wildly threw past first on a pickoff attempt for a two-base error that put Elvis Andrus on third. Andrus then scored on a balk by Ziegler, the first of his career. Andrus had an earlier RBI double for the Rangers. Boof Bonser pitched the ninth for the A’s in his Oakland debut. Bonds perjury trial set for March 21 SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Slugger Barry Bonds will stand trial on federal perjury charges in March. Bonds’ legal team, fed- eral prosecutors and U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston agreed during a brief hearing Friday to begin the trial on March 21. They also hashed out a schedule to file legal docu- ments and to hold pretrial hearings to shape what the jury will see and hear dur- ing the three-week trial. Bonds’ initial February 2009 trial date was delayed at the last minute when prosecutors appealed the judge’s rul- ing excluding vital evi- dence. The prosecutors ultimately lost that appeal and have decided to go ahead with the trial anyway. The former San Fran- cisco Giant has pleaded not guilty to charges he lied to a grand jury in December 2003 when he denied knowingly taking performance-enhancing drugs. Members of the Red Bluff Bass Anglers traveled to the Delta for July’s Bass Fishing Tournament. The Delta area of California is known for its record weights in bass that is brought to the scales in tournaments. Bill Waters took home the winning trophy with 20.53 pounds of largemouth bass. Second place was Doug Stewart with 17.73 pounds and in third was Mike Bisnett with 9.68 pounds.
