Indeed, the 1964-66 ABC sitcom that was based on the Charles Addams comic strip of the same title followed the misadventures of the title ghoulish clan and was actually a parody of what was considered the ideal 20th century American family. Headed by Gomez and Morticia (John Astin, Carolyn Jones), this group of eccentric aristocrats delighted in all things morbid and seemed oblivious to the fact that the outside world found them weird and scary. Other members of the household were Uncle Fester (Jackie Coogan), who could light a light bulb in his mouth; Frankenstein-like butler Lurch (Ted Cassidy); offspring Pugsley and Wednesday (Ken Weatherwax, Lisa Loring), Grandmama (Marie Blake aka Blossom Rock) and Thing, a dismembered hand. There were also visits from Cousin Itt (Felix Silla), a diminutive creature who was covered head to toe in blond hair and spoke gibberish. Viewers can stream this classic black-and-white sitcom on Tubi, Pluto, Roku and IMDb TV.
