Being a social person, Jack had the need to meet more people at OSU. It wasn't long before he met classmates and was invited to several fraternity houses. After a few visits, Jack narrowed his choices down and saw how perfect a fit Lambda Chi Alpha was for him. Jack found the definite advantages to living with an organized group; the social aspect was important of course, but there was much more than that. "Living in a group helps you meet a wide variety of people, not just within your living group, but also on campus," Jack said. "I know it helped me transition to becoming a better version of myself than when I arrived on campus." As an alumnus in the '80s and '90s, Jack was involved as the Chapter advisor and, over the years, became alumni advisor and Housing Corporation president. He enjoyed seeing the Chapter and the individual members do well. Then a few years ago, he became reinvolved as an alumni board member during the construction of a new Chapter House. At that time, Chapter members were living in a campus dorm while the new house was being built. Seniors were the only men that, as first-year students, had lived in the old house. "It was obvious to me that the group was being deprived of a lot of what a fraternity had to offer," Jack said. "Underclassmen had no real concept of what a fraternity was." However, the move into the new Chapter House was a momentous event that Jack was proud to be a part of. He was not only on the house board, but also helped fund the rebuild with a donation to the campaign. "Having been a pretty active member over a period of 56 years, I can tell you it was all worth the time, effort, and money to see Alpha Eta Chapter become what it is today," Jack said. Jack offers three pieces of advice for the active members: 1. Give your absolute best effort to achieve a good education. 2. Develop the best version of yourself. 3. Learn how to live with the diversity in your fellow men. "I truly believe this is what being in a fraternity is for," Jack said. "It can help a young man achieve his goals. No one will do it for you; brothers must be proactive while at OSU and ΛXA in all that they do, because this is the bridge to help achieve a happy life." Jack cherishes the lifelong friends and is thankful for the social and business connections that were formed at OSU, which ΛΧΑ gave him a platform to achieve. Jack is semi-retired and has two children, one of whom was also in Greek life. You can connect with Jack at jackcrain1042@gmail.com.
