SIGMA PHI EPSILON p. 3 F or the third consecutive year, the Alumni Volunteer Corporation organized an Alumni Reunion Weekend for Oregon Betas! This year, as with many things, the COVID-19 pandemic limited interactions, but we did have several brothers gather at a Friday night social hour to share stories before celebrating a Duck victory at the tailgate at Autzen Stadium the next day. Keep an eye out for more alumni events to come, and we hope you can join us at the Alumni Reunion Weekend in 2022. For decades, the truck was used to ferry members to Autzen Stadium for football games. In those days, the crowds were minimal at the stadium, which provided easy access to drop people off and return to the house for multiple runs. Often, the truck was painted by a local beer distributor and was sponsored by Olympia, Budweiser, and was once painted white and sponsored by Miller. As membership waned in the early 2000s, the fire truck became more and more of a liability for the Chapter. Members didn't possess the skills necessary to maintain the truck and local laws were making it more and more difficult to take the truck on public roads without getting cited. Insurance costs soared and the truck was being used less and less. Somewhere around 2010 the decision was made to donate the truck to the Creswell Fire Department with the understanding they would bring it back to its glory and use it in parades. But that is where the story takes a turn. It seems that little was known about its time in Creswell. One of the biggest questions that is often asked is, "What ever happened to the firetruck?" Rumors and various sightings of the old 1936 Fageol would surface now and then, but most recently, it was spotted in Junction City, Oregon. After further investigation, the truck is now in the possession of a nonprofit in Junction City called Function 4 Junction. This 501(c)(3) has a mission to raise money for the children, schools, and community of Junction City. The ownership has passed among various board members within the organization. It is currently in the process of transferring title to a board member who is interested in updating some items to make the rig more operable and compliant. We have expressed our interest in partnering with J4F in the hopes of featuring the truck at some of our future events. We'd love to hear your favorite firetruck stories. Send them along and we'll recap them in an upcoming issue. You can email your response to brian.stewart3@comcast.net. Another Successful Alumni Weekend
