SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY
Fall 2021
RESILIENCE IS EVERYTHING
House Corporation Chairman Addresses the Strength of Brotherhood
T
his summer, the chapter announced a new campaign
to raise $250,000 to endow the chapter as a Bell
Chapter. The campaign launched with two incredibly
generous donations from H. Sam Forrer '63 and Jim
Schroeder '63. To date, we have raised $211,100!
The Bell Chapter Challenge—a program of the Sigma
Chi Foundation—provides annual benefits to the
chapter: priority registrations, additional reserved spots
for Sigma Chi's licensed and soon-to-be accredited
leadership programs, $4,000 per year in academic
scholarships, travel reimbursements for chapter
attendance at Sigma Chi programs, and more.
This program distinguishes us as a premier chapter in
Sigma Chi, and the Foundation's research has shown that
Bell Chapters outperform non-Bell Chapters in several
areas of operational excellence.
In the coming months, you'll hear more about how our
undergraduate brothers are benefiting from this program,
and we hope you'll help push this campaign over the
finish line. To learn more about this program, visit https://

E
ven though COVID-19
continues to impact our country
and our lives, the men of Sigma
Chi excitedly returned to campus
this fall. We are fortunate that our
members are willing to adapt and
progress in this unique and ever-
changing environment.
Despite COVID-19 lingering into
the spring and summer semesters,
the men completed recruitment season
with a full class of 23 pledges who were
initiated on October 2. It has been a crazy
year—with masks, social distancing, and
exposures—but Sigma Chi has proven it can
be efficient and successful no matter what's
thrown our way.
Those of us who were able to attend the reception on
October 15 honoring Order of Constantine Sig Larry D.
Fox '76 and Significant Sig Jim Schroeder '63 shared
brotherhood and reminisced. The strength of our alumni
brotherhood continued the next day with our tailgate
before the Iowa State game.
The capital campaign that you all generously supported
to renovate our beloved chapter house is winding down
this year. We are pleased with
the high rate of pledge fulfillment
(over 90%) from our donors. This,
coupled with a full house, has
allowed the house corporation to
accelerate payment of our debt and
will help us continue the strong
financial footing we have enjoyed
for years.
Mentors are what make the chapter
and men thrive. We want to thank Scott
W. Green '92 for his service as chapter
advisor the past two years. He will remain
on the chapter advisory board, and David
L. Compton '89 will move into the chapter
advisor role. The undergraduates are in great
hands with David.
Now that campus is gradually going back to normal
operations, we can organize more events, participate in
in-person gatherings, and ultimately provide the best
Sigma Chi experience. We look forward to an exciting
and rewarding year.
In Hoc,
Doug Burton, M.D. '89
