4 A lumni associations at Pi Kappa Alpha exist to promote the brotherhood of φφκα by providing an outlet for casual alumni interaction. Beta Mu's new organization will provide a more formalized, enduring opportunity for Pike alumni to benefit from their membership through fellowship, networking, social engagements and other interactions, including supporting the undergraduate men. Alumni associations are groups of alumni and friends connected to the International Fraternity and each other through leadership, programming, communication and membership. Beta Mu's alumni organization plans an exciting mix of social, athletic, recreational and academic activities. Our chapter-based alumni association is made up of alumni from Beta Mu Chapter, regardless of geography. The long-term intent is to: offset the funding of alumni activities, support our newsletters and website, initiate a low-dollar campaign to reduce Beta Mu's mortgage debt and develop academic performance and needs-based scholarships for Beta Mu undergraduates. Combined, these aspects are designed to contribute to a long-term, sustained Beta Mu presence on The Forty Acres. As said by Russ Keene '80, who is leading the formation of the association, "Many Beta Mu alumni contributed modestly for years when asked to fund our alumni newsletters and programming before we ever conceived of a house campaign. The new organization formalizes and better organizes our efforts, and a membership approach should lead to more consistent, yet still very modest, funding for alumni activities as well as for important chapter support." Our annual dues structure allows the association to collect administrative funds. These funds can be used to produce communications, offset costs of events, provide chapter support, instill debt reduction and offer scholarship programs. • Dues for first and second years out of college – Free • Third and fourth years out of college – $25 • Ages 25 and up – $50 • Founder/charter membership fee – $100 Note: A lifetime dues donor level will be explored in the future. We are applying for and have received conditional approval of an alumni association "charter" from the Fraternity's Supreme Council. The new organization will be a nonprofit Texas corporation, managed by a volunteer board of directors with annual financial reporting, IRS filings and audits. Initial association directors are Jim Windham '62, Tom Peel '73, Cinco Cocke '80, John Ward '85, Jeremy Garner '94, Matt Hoover '12 and Cole Martinez '16. "Membership is purely voluntary. The association is being founded to build on the success and excitement of the new chapter house opened in 2020 and to continue the solid momentum to sustain Beta Mu into her second century. The UT chapters of FIJI, Kappa Sig, Phi Psi and Sigma Chi have scholarship funding that is attractive to prospective rushees and parents. Whether an alumnus chooses to join and pay dues or not, he will continue to be in good alumni standing with the International Fraternity as well a Beta Mu." –Doug Phelan '65 What are Beta Mu's goals and objectives of an association? • Coordinate local alumni activities, adding to and enriching the lifelong Pike experience. • Annually manage the new Beta Mu Legends Alumni Awards program. • Assist the chapter through scholarship opportunities and other means of support. • Provide career networking opportunities for both local alumni and undergraduates. • Raise funds for chapter house debt reduction. Nick Martin '97, Chandler Abbott '10 and Alex Crutchfield '15 speak to undergraduates interested in careers in technology during the September Career Advisory session. Pike hosts alumni career talks several times a year. Martin Dies '68 received the Beta Mu Alumni Legends Distinguished Leadership Award sponsored by the new alumni association. Jay Messer '69 presented the award. Michelle and Scott Johnson '84, Alumni Association board member Cinco Cocke '80 and Stuart Rexrode '87 showing Pike Longhorn spirit.
