W ith things returning to "somewhat normal," it's been a solid year here at Gamma Upsilon. We recruited a strong fall pledge class of 35—the largest our chapter has seen in a long time. Along with this, we achieved our highest cumulative GPA at 3.34, the fifth highest among fraternities on campus. Despite COVID protocols still looming last spring, we were able to register our first formal in two years. We complied with all university guidelines and developed a risk plan that allowed us to still have a great time and celebrate our school year together. Along with a high GPA, we also had 54 members on the Dean's List this past spring. Our growing membership and GPA demonstrates the tremendous growth that our chapter has been making. In the spring, we hosted our second annual Cones & Bones event. We served ice cream and had members bring their dogs to raise money for the Puppy Jake Foundation. We raised $1,880 from that event alone, which is more than we raised the entire previous semester. Along with this, we hosted a Parents' Weekend that included a basket raffle; we raised over $5,000 for ACCESS, an assault care center in Ames. Looking ahead, we are planning our second ATΩ Drive-in. Philanthropy Chairman Jacob Brown '19 has been working very hard to make it an even better experience than last year so we can raise even more money for ACCESS! We have 75 parking spots and will be showing Monsters University, complete with popcorn and refreshments. On November 6, Gamma Upsilon hosted our first alumni event since before the pandemic began. Alumni Relations Chairman Jacob Leyden '20 rented a tailgate tent by Jack Trice Stadium to host Gamma Upsilon alumni. This has also become part of an awesome project to build our alumni database and increase alumni involvement. We look forward to these events growing in the coming years.
