ENTRE NOUS 2 included new bathrooms, technology upgrades (safety, internet and cable TV wiring), new windows and window treatments, kitchen equipment and outdoor improvements. Safety upgrades included new perimeter walls and electronic gates at the alley. Painting, cleaning and other annual work made the house sparkle in time for recruitment. With a long list of items needing renovation, repair or replacement, Mary enthusiastically encouraged alumnae donations and partnered with companies such as Molly Wood Garden Design and Newport Harbor Shipyard to donate items for landscaping and refinishing. When Pi Phi parents wished to join the effort, Mary coordinated the donation of numerous items. In her role, Mary also oversaw a number of business functions, including long-range planning, the employment of the House Director and other staff, leasing the house to the chapter, insurance, taxes and other responsibilities. Mary graduated magna cum laude from USC with a bachelor's degree in English and international relations, and from the USC School of Law. She spent her entire career at Rutan & Tucker, becoming a partner in real estate law and successfully representing some of the largest landlords in Southern California and Fortune 500 companies. Mary served as president of the Trojan League of Los Angeles and received the Widney Alumni House Award for her volunteerism and leadership. A scholarship recipient herself while at USC, Mary endowed scholarships for other students through Town & Gown and served on its scholarship committee. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Kevin Green. A plaque honoring Mary will be placed on a bench outside the chapter house. Honoring Former CHC President Mary McIllece Green Rooney (Continued from page 1) In 2009, Mary wrote: "I have come to think more about the important role that Pi Phi played in my own life. During my undergraduate years, Pi Phi taught me many lessons. Pi Phi introduced me to individuals whom I value today as my dear friends. Pi Phi also taught me to learn from and to gain an appreciation for individuals from different backgrounds and experiences. I developed leadership skills and had the luxury of living in a new and beautiful home with other women committed to common values and goals.… Young women need, and can clearly benefit from, the opportunity to live in a lovely home environment with other women facing similar challenges who commit to standing by and supporting each other in friendship."
