2 ALPHA TAU OMEGA T he past year and a half did not go the way anyone would have expected. Our Chapter was limited as to what we were allowed to do, but that did not stop us from succeeding in the areas that we could. At the end of the spring semester, we earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25. is placed us in the top five among large fraternities (chapters with 100-plus members). In addition, nearly 75% of our members had a GPA above a 3.0. Brother Nick Hauser '19 led the way once again with a GPA of 4.0 in the medical program. We couldn't be prouder of our brothers facing the hardships of COVID-19 with such rigor and perseverance. is semester, we are working just as hard to not only maintain our academic success, but also surpass it. Scholarship Chairman Richard Strifler '19 is instilling efficient study habits into our new members as well as helping any actives who may need it. In August, Gamma Rho received two awards at the national conference: the Excellence Award and True Merit Runner-Up. Upon returning to campus with normal class operations, our executive board had an assortment of strategies planned to achieve ultimate success in our brotherhood and community. To start, aer ensuring we could resume social services, we reached out to Columbia Food Bank. We send a group of 40 brothers at a time, and our efforts don't stop there! We contribute to all the sorority's philanthropy events, and we even have three of our own planned as well. During the week of Homecoming, we raised money for a local organization, Coyote Hill, a group dedicated to creating better lives for children who have been affected by abuse in their household. For our second philanthropy event, we have partnered with Beta to play in a hockey game on January 29 to raise money for BeStrong29 Foundation, an organization founded by Brother Mick Deaver '19, who lost his ability to walk due to a hockey injury in 2016. Our final philanthropy event will be held in spring 2022 and will include a handful of activities (basketball, bowling, and golf ) to start a fundraiser and scholarship in honor of our fallen brothers like Drew King '19. We hope to honor Drew's name and raise money to help others. As a Chapter, we look forward to a very successful year and keeping the strong traditions of ATĪ© alive and well.
